This year as usual the Rudge Motorcycle club gathered at the Stafford show. The weather was fortunately on our side, and we were once again blessed with the contribution from many of our loyal and keen club members. The stand, though generous in its proportions was not only crowded by an impressive array of member’s bikes but by those who willingly and happily engaged with the curious public.
Saturday was apparently the better day for this with our Mike Griffiths saying it was the busiest he had ever experienced, and that’s quite something coming from someone who has organised Rudge related displays for over 30 years. In contrast, Sunday did appear to be a lot quieter, with a lot less ‘footfall’ in the main exhibition hall. Although this didn’t necessarily stop friends from coming by to say hello.
We are completely grateful to Pat Murray for exhibiting his 1932 Rudge Radial 350, Peter Welch for bringing his 250 Jap engined Rudge which he has owned for over 40 years. While Roger Clarke brought to the club display his 1929 Rudge Ulster and David Murrray brought along his late 1938 Rudge Sports/Special 500 c.c. Noah Harrison brought his 1934 Ulster to the stand, and then Steve Bolger, Mike G. and me also showed our Rudges. Together they made the most impressive display, and personally I thought the stand was the best-looking stand in the entire show.
It is with gratitude that the Rudge Motorcycle Club committee thank and thus convey our appreciation and gratitude to those who went to the effort of bringing their Rudge to the show. If the chatter is to be believed the classic motorcycle fraternity is dwindling before our very eyes, the Rudge Motorcycle Cub are still running counter to this, and appears to be punching above its weight, and for that we have to thank everyone who contributed to making an excellent weekend and impressive display.
If you feel missed out and would like to display your Rudge at one of our shows then why not let us know, we would love to hear from you: welshrudges@gmail.com
